Why Both Filters Matter
The 6.7L Cummins uses a two-stage fuel filtration system. The chassis-mounted separator removes water and larger contaminants first; the engine-mounted filter provides final filtration before fuel reaches the high-pressure injection system. Replacing only one leaves half the system on an old element, so both are normally changed together at the same service interval.
Service Notes
Replace at the interval given in your vehicle's maintenance schedule, and more often with biodiesel blends, heavy towing, or poor local fuel quality.
Installation: Follow the procedure in the factory service manual for your vehicle. High-pressure common-rail diesel fuel systems retain pressure after shutdown and must be relieved correctly before any line is opened. If you are not equipped to do this safely, have the filters fitted by a qualified technician.
